Terms of Use

The rules for using Attainly, for everyone your institution gives an account to — and for anyone answering a survey.

Last updated August 2026.

  1. 01Who these terms apply to

Anyone signing in to Attainly with an account their institution issued — students, faculty, department administrators — and anyone completing a survey through an invitation link without an account. Using the system means accepting what is set out here.

  2. 02What this document is not

These are terms of use, not a commercial contract. Whatever agreement exists between Attainly and the institution that runs it — pricing, service levels, liability, notice periods, governing law — is a separate document negotiated between those two parties, and nothing on this page adds to it, limits it or replaces it. If you are evaluating Attainly for an institution, ask us for that agreement; it is not this.

  3. 03Your account

Accounts are created for you by your institution. There is no public sign-up, and you cannot create one yourself.

    • The first time you sign in with a password an administrator issued, you have to replace it before you can reach anything else.
    • Signing in also requires a one-time code sent to your institutional email address.
    • Your account is yours alone. Do not share your password or let anyone else act under your sign-in — everything done through it is recorded against you.
    • Tell your institution promptly if you think someone else has used your account.
  4. 04What you may reach

Your role decides what you can see and change, and the system enforces it rather than relying on you to stay in your lane. A student reaches their own record; faculty reach the sections they teach; a department administrator reaches their own department. Attempting to reach another person’s record, another department’s data, or any part of the system your role does not cover is a misuse of your account, whether or not the attempt succeeds.

  5. 05Academic records

The records in this system belong to your institution and are its responsibility.

    • Marks are entered by the faculty teaching the course and evaluated under your institution’s own rules.
    • A course offering can be locked once results are final. After that its marks cannot be edited without an administrator unlocking it, and both the lock and the unlock are recorded.
    • If something in your record is wrong, raise it with your department — corrections are made at source so that grades and attainment recalculate from the corrected figure.
    • Attainment percentages, grades and GPA are calculated from the marks held here. They are not entered by hand and cannot be edited directly.
  6. 06Changes are recorded

Every creation, change and deletion of a mark, grade, result or attainment figure is written to an audit trail with the account responsible, what changed, when, and the network address the request came from. This exists because accreditation reviews ask who altered a record and when. It is not optional, and it is visible to administrators at your institution.

  7. 07Acceptable use

Beyond staying within your role, do not do any of the following.

    • Interfere with the system’s operation, or attempt to bypass its access controls, rate limits or sign-in checks.
    • Extract data in bulk beyond what your role provides for, or use automated tools against the system without your institution’s permission.
    • Upload files you have no right to share, or anything that would put the institution in breach of its own obligations.
    • Publish or pass on another person’s academic record.
  8. 08Suspension

An account can be made inactive or suspended by your institution, at which point sign-in stops working. That decision is your institution’s, not ours, and questions about it go to your department. Records already in the system are not deleted when an account is suspended.

  9. 09If you are answering a survey

Survey invitations carry a single-use link. Do not forward it — it is the credential, and anyone holding it can answer in your place. Giving your name and email on the form is optional. What you submit is used to calculate programme-level attainment and is visible to staff at the institution that invited you.

  10. 10Availability and support

Attainly runs on infrastructure your institution chooses and operates. Availability, maintenance windows and support are therefore matters for your institution in the first instance, and your department or IT support is the right place to start. Any availability commitment made to your institution lives in its agreement with us, not here.

  11. 11Changes to these terms

If the rules above change, this page changes and the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use the system after that means accepting the revised terms.
